Floor -3 plot 134: On the inner ring of plots a few were associated with awkward spaces which somewhat isolated them. Presumably to assist maneuvering into these oddly shaped locations they were rendered as strangely distorted parallelograms. Angela liked the way these dynamically shaped plots were in visual tension with their surroundings. We looked at several and compared their qualities. Though in an exceptionally dramatic relation to its location this '134' was less visually isolated than some and rather dangerously projected into the carriage-way - thus, it was rejected.

Floor -3 plot 136: This distorted plot was Angela's eventual choice - it was chosen for its degree of isolation in an unusually ' containing' cell; its relative cleanness; the proximity of the floor entry ramp and lift.

2 - MAKING WORK-PIECES - HOUSE & STUDIO

The work was constrained by the curatorial injunction that the car-park art must be black and/or white. This section shows the making of the parts that will be added to Angela's chosen car-park plot. They consist of black felt ribbons with knotted ('flower-like') ends and ('flower-like') twisted and knotted black clothes. 'Flower-like' knotted clothes and felt have been used previously in various tests and doodles; as table decor; and as principal actors in the installations and videos "Once Out Of Nature" [Ref previous work - page 1]..

The ongoing results of Angela's making of parts are often arranged in temporary 'spin-offs' and quick doodles. This is a continual self-entertaining habit of inventiveness and pleasure in its results, it also feeds into and 'keeps her in touch with' the final aim and outcome of the work.

The 1st test of an idea of the final work; also made for a photo sent to the exhibition curators.

(Seen in retrospect it has a higher density of big flowers and a lower density of felt-laying than in the final work.)

Studio work:

A temporary sketch on the studio floor, accompanying her early manufacture of felt 'flowers'. These are made from felt strips: 2cm to 6cm wide for the 'flower-heads' (each a simple knot) with approx 1cm wide 'stems' tied to them.

Two days later there is also a gratuitous bouquet on the corner of her studio work-table. 24hrs later these floor and table groups have multiplied [Pic 08]

Badly cut felt-strip rejects, which however are later intentionally arranged. Anything is susceptible to 'arrangement-tests' - in this case a special type of image: a felt 'drawing' trapped under glass (one of ongoing tests of a glass and felt (or wool) 'sandwich' for a possible other work).

3 - ON SITE :  INSTALLING THE WORK

Angela arrived first at the car-park and reserved plot -3 136. A car delivered the garment 'flower-balls' and felt 'flowers' (approx 1000), laid in bags. After she had cleaned the plot, arranging these took a continuous 8 hours, plus another 2.5 hours the next morning - the work was finished around 12:00.
